Abstract:

Image enhancement is one of many digital techniques originated in the field of image processing. These techniques are used to improve the visibility of Images, or 1o convert the image to a form better suited to human or machine analysis and to bring out details that would otherwise remain obscure. This thesis concentrates upon the use of Pseudocolor approach which is an image enhancement technique used to convert the gray level intensity images into color-coded images. In this work, a study has been done about the different types of Pseudocolor methods developed in the past. The Pseudocolor approach used in this work is based on the principle of applying three different digital filters (high pass, band pass and low pass filters) to the spectrum produced from the Fourier transformation on the input image. The three filtered outputs produced are then assigned to the Red, Green and Blue components of the CRT electron guns to be then projected onto the screen. Thus a complete package has been designed to perform the required operations needed to produce the colored image. This package consists of two main parts. The first one is used to perform the Fourier transformation and the filtering operations. The second part uses a computed color table designed to mix the three Red, Green and Blue components together to produce and display the required color such that each pixel in the original image will have a new value that corresponds to the new produced color, which at last leads in constructing a new colored image.
