Abstract:

In this work an equilateral triangular ring CW CO2 laser has been designed and constructed.The dimension of the ring laser is about 0.3m per side. The triangular area is 0.25m2 mounted on a 0.75m * 0.75m. perspex plate. The design parameters were chosen such that the laser beam is a single TEMoo mode, with an output power of 6W. A dual high voltage DC power supply has been designed and constructed to give a maximum output of 6kV 100mA per arm. A uniform glow discharge in each arm of the triangular ring laser has been obtained, for (1:1:8), (1:2:3), and (1:3:8), for (COi: N2: He) gas mixture. The IV characteristics were taken for the three mixing ratios with pressure for 1, 3, and 5 mbar. The discharge is cooled by tap water introduced to the outer jacket of the discharge tube. The available output coupler was completely damaged which is not suitable to achieve laser action, and at this stage the work was terminated till a proper output coupler with the proper reflectivity is obtained.
