The College of Biotechnology at Al-Nahrain University discusses the master’s thesis submitted by Wurood Nafi’ Nayef, from the Department of Molecular and Medical Biotechnology, entitled:
Assessment of TNF-α, miR-125 and miR-155 Gene Expression in Iraqi Women with Chronic Urinary Tract Infections
The thesis focuses on assessing the gene expression of TNF-α, miR-125, and miR-155 in Iraqi women suffering from chronic and recurrent urinary tract infections, in addition to examining several clinical, microbiological, hematological, and biochemical aspects associated with the disease.
The results shows an approximately 4.6-fold increase in TNF-α gene expression and a 4.5-fold increase in miR-155 gene expression, while miR-125 gene expression decreased to 0.64-fold compared with the control group.
The study recommends the importance of investigating these molecular markers to better understand the inflammatory response and the mechanisms associated with the persistence and recurrence of chronic urinary tract infections. It also highlighted their potential future use as complementary biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring such cases.
